Scroll through the data or use the shortcut index below.

See many of mine here.

Print this single page summary of all lodges (set your printer's margins to zero to ensure it fits!).

If you can supply any illustrations of other Masonic "pennies" please do so.

Some St Patrick lodges from overseas are listed on the CDROM

Masonic "pennies" - shortcuts
1- 100- 200- 300- 400- 500-
600- 700- 800- 900- 1000-

See the text list of all Irish masonic lodges by district or in numerical order.

HTWSSTKS stands for
"Hiram The Widow's Son Sent To King Solomon"
(according to an exonumia website!)
or
Hiram, Tyrian, Widow's Son, Sendeth To King Solomon
(according to another!)

Barry Vickers has published a CDROM catalogue listing and illustrating Masonic pennies
from the British Isles and elsewhere. The descriptions of non-illustrated pieces are from
his illustrations.

(Belfast) Is the comma on the above a mistake? The Redfern Kelly Lodge was presumably named after Redfern Kelly who designed the Alexandra Graving Dock in Belfast, with T.R.Salmond, which was opened in 1889. He also designed the Thompson dry dock - then the largest dry dock in the world, when he was the Harbour Engineer 1913. Was the Titanic built in the Alexandra?

TO EVERY MAN HIS WAGES
Thought to be Irish because of the rev. legend

A 1960's guide book records the following;-

(Cork, St Finnbarr's Cathedral) ... A brass tablet on the floor near the pulpit marks the tomb of the Hon. Elizabeth Aldworth (1695-1775); she is said to be the only woman ever initiated into Freemasonry.

She is remembered, with paintings and a picture of her apron, on a Cork Freemasonry website http://homepage.tinet.ie/~stuartc/2.htm as follows;-
Perhaps the most intriguing story in connection with Munster masonry concerns the Hon. Mrs Elizabeth Aldworth (nee St Leger), the only Lady Freemason. She was born in 1693, the fourth child and only daughter of Viscount Doneraile who was himself a keen mason.
The story states that Lord Doneraile held Lodge meetings at Doneraile Court from time to time. On one occasion, some building work had been partially completed whereby two rooms were to be connected by an arch. Lord Doneraile and other masons held a meeting in one of the rooms not realising that Elizabeth was in the other room having fallen asleep whilst reading. The sound of voices awakened her and her curiosity aroused she removed a loose brick in the wall and observed the proceedings. It is reported a staff member discovered her. The members of the lodge, under the circumstances, felt they had to initiate her. At this time she was only seventeen years old.
She remained an interested member of the order until her death in 1775 at the age of 80.

In the parable read in the Mark Degree, a penny is the amount given to each of the labourers in the vineyard for his day's labour. Hence, in the ritual, a penny a day is said to be the wages of a Mark Master and the following Parable is recited.

For the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which went out early in the morning to hire labourers into his vineyard. And when he had agreed with the labourers for a penny a day, he sent them into his vineyard. And he went out about the third hour, and saw others standing idle in the market-place, and said unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard; and whatsoever is right I will give you. And they went their way. And again he went out about the sixth and ninth hour, and did likewise. And about the eleventh hour, he went out and found others standing idle, and saith unto them, Why stand ye here all the day idle. They say unto him, Because no man hath hired us. He saith unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard; and whatsoever is right, that shall ye receive. So when even was come, the lord of the vineyard saith unto his steward, Call the laborers, and give them their hire, beginning from the last unto the first. And when they came that were hired about the eleventh hour, they received every man a penny. But when the first came, they supposed that they should have received more; and they likewise received every man a penny. And when they had received it, they murmured against the good man of the house, saying, These last have wrought but one hour, and thou hast made them equal unto us, which have borne the burden and heat of the day. But he answered one of them, and said Friend, I do thee no wrong; didst not thou agree with me for a penny? Take that thine is, and go thy way; I will give unto this last, even as unto thee. Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? Is thine eye evil because I am good? So the last shall be first, and the first last: for man be called, but few chosen. - MATT. xx. 1-16.
