Even Australia issued a commemorative Emmet medal!

The dollars are sent out in a sealed plastic bag
in specially printed envelopes.

The dollars bear the motto
Emmetsburg Iowa Large Enough To Serve You Small Enough To Know You

Issued every year from 1966, designs by C.L. Nicholson

Probably the most famous Irish-American "coins" are the following Emmetsburg dollars,
issued for $2 each year from 1966 around St Patrick's Day.

They bear the year of issue and, usually, the issue number (1966=1, 1974=IX etc).

Emmet lived 1778-1803 (according to the 1997 issue).
The 200th Anniversaries of his birth (1978) & death (2003) weren't mentioned on the tokens!

Earlier ones seem to have a "common" reverse, shown below (however there appears to be a
slight variation from year to year, so a new reverse die might have been used each year,
and different pairing might exist).
A special reverse was used on the 1976 USA bicentennial year issue.
A new reverse design was introduced 1992.
