IRISH'S PLACE, LONG PRAIRIE, (tiny maker's name?), MINN.
GOOD FOR 5¢ IN TRADE (some have tiny maker's name?)
The second is similar but from a different reverse die - the
"5" has text beneath it. The above merchant trade tokens from Irish's Place, Long Prairie, Minnesota, 20mm brass. The third shows variability in the rev. die axis. An example of the second type was advertised along with two others as follows;- These brass-like tokens are from a small beer-pool hall, with a cardroom in the back of the building in Long Prairie, Minnesota. The five cent one says Irish's Place (the owner's nickname), the dime one says Dempsey's Bar (the owner's last name), and the quarter one says Dempsey's. All three were made by Schaaf of Minneapolis, MN. I acquired them in the early '60's from the establishment. |

MILK BOTTLE 5¢ DEPOSIT | ||
A little larger than a quarter. Irish Bend Island is located on the Houston Ship Channel between the Lynchburg crossing and Brady's Landing. During WWII the Todd Shipyards (Houston Shipbuilding Corporation) had a facility there building Liberty Ships. However another listing states;- Rare token from Irish Bend Louisiana. The now nearly non-existent town in southern Louisiana has a claim to fame as the site of a Civil War Battle which ended in a Union victory and opened control of SW Louisiana to the Union. 28mm |

also listed under Elongates - common. The 1934 World Fair was "opened" by light from a star (then thought to be) 40 light years away - ie the light had set out when the last World Fair was held in Chicago in 1893. The 159 different images pressed during this fair were catalogued by Lee Martin and Dottie Dow in YESTERDAY'S ELONGATEDS. This coin is CPIE-29, Rarity (3). |
