| St PATRICK'S DAY leprechaun with pot of gold and shamrock
| GOOD LUCK a shamrock
| Apparently 200 of these with the leprechaun side in mirror image were produced. Shown here with the error reversed - presumably a corrected design was later produced. Described as follows;- | Brilliant Uncirculated one ounce .999 Silver coin/medallion was minted over 15 years ago. The Leprechans must have been at work, because none of the 7 or 8 people involved in the concept, design/artwork, sculpting, engraving, proofing and minting noticed that it was backward until the first batch of 200 was completed. I happened to be at the Mint that day, and purchased a few coins before they were thrown back into the 'melting pot'. It was a day of great embarrassment, and no one could figure out how it had happened, the first time in the history of the Mint, apparently, since dies are very expensive to manufacture. to top | -
